  1. I am a former editor at Marketplace, the public radio business news program, responding to a comment you posted on a series titled “The Price of Profits,” in 2016. I was the editor of the series, but I retired a few months later and stopped monitoring the comments. Somehow I overlooked yours.

You said you’d sent Marketplace editors your latest study of an ecosystem shift in income levels in 1970 a month or so before “The Price of Profits” aired, and asked if your work was an unattributed inspiration for the project. It’s eight years later – I just happened, today, to look back at the series and the comments – and you deserve a response, however late.

No. I never saw your study and was unaware of your work. Had I been aware, you might have been a great person to interview.

My team began discussing the series a year before it aired, and I launched my reporters six months before it aired.

But it’s still an issue, isn’t it?

    Best,
    George Judson

    1. Ah, yes, indeed, ever more so. The profits of today’s growth economy are largely derived from creating the environmental and societal crisis caused by the ever-expanding economic interference in the natural world.

So… yep. Still, close to no one at all is watching that interference and mapping how we’d keep it from undermining civilization to the point of collapse.

I believe my first article on it is still clear, FYI. https://synapse9.com/signals/was-shareholder-value-what-did-it/
