etc. \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px; text-align: center;\">(See also\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/synapse9.com\/issues\/Pictures%20of WhatGDPMeasures.htm\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;Pictures of WhatGDPMeasures&#8221;<\/a>\u00a0with\u00a011 figures and brief explanations tracing the Money\/Energy link)<\/p>\n<p>A country\u2019s <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>Share of the World\u2019s GDP per Share of World Energy<\/em><\/span>, measures<\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\">&#8220;Relative Economic Energy Dependence&#8221; \u2018NEED\u2019<\/h4>\n<p>a strong indicator of how much of its economy is fed by off-shore, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>mostly \u2018fossil\u2019<\/em><\/span>, energy services, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>most often<\/em> <em>not being counted in national energy accounts<\/em><\/span>.\u00a0\u00a0 Countries do have different energy productivities, but World competition actively selects competitive energy uses wherever they are found. \u00a0So like waves on a pond\u2026 the national accounts vary in relation to each other, and the global accounts are smooth and reflect the <em>gradual changes of<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> the system as a whole<\/span><\/em>.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"width: 585px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/synapse9.com\/issues\/WorldGDP&amp;Intensity.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">A. &#8211; World averages compared to OECD and Non-OECD performance<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We see in Figure A strong diverging trends in GDP and Energy use for OECD and Non-OECD groups, along with converging steady trends for the ratio Energy\/$GDP,\u00a0over the past 40 years.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As the less developed remain smaller, but grow faster, the more developed are giving them development space.<\/li>\n<li>The Energy\/$GDP\u00a0 (intensity) is continuing it\u2019s long historic path of quite steadily decline, NOT diverging, showing how smoothly the interlocked productivities of the world economy \u201clevel the playing field\u201d for energy services, delivered to where they are most valued..<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<figure style=\"width: 585px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/synapse9.com\/issues\/WorldRegionalNEED.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"585\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\">B. &#8211;\u00a0The developed countries with less energy supply import energy services from others with more<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Figure B shows the NEED of the major 8 World Sectors shows much more variation, and you can see some of he fitting shapes that cause the total to be a straight line.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The US &amp; Canada are close to the 1\/1 average, but steadily rising<\/li>\n<li>The EU, Japan and Australia are ~1.5\/1 rather dependent on Off-Shore energy services, lacking abundant sources.<\/li>\n<li>So the ridh \u201cEnergy Poor\u201d economies need to purchase more and more of their energy in the form of energy services from their neighbors, as &#8220;how economies work&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>It causes a likely mistaken impression the EU is more \u201csustainable\u201d, greatly outperforming the US &amp; Canada.<\/li>\n<li>National Energy Accounts don\u2019t trace trade in energy services, only trade in energy materials, needing a \u201cShares of GDP\u201d proxy measure as here to find it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The National Energy Accounts are not set up to trace trade in energy services, only in materials, requiring a \u201cShares of GDP\u201d proxy measure to find it.<\/p>\n<p>It shows a very good reason why\u00a0we all need to\u00a0learn,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/synapse9.com\/signals\/2014\/04\/08\/easy-intro-scope-4-use-interpretation\/\">as in\u00a0Scope-4 impact accounting<\/a>\u00a0for the <a href=\"http:\/\/synapse9.com\/signals\/2014\/02\/03\/a-world-sdg\/\">World SDG<\/a>, the use of GDP as a proxy measure of average economic energy use, \u00a0and also why it works so well. \u00a0 The &#8220;global economy&#8221; and it&#8217;s highly competitive use of world information on the most profitable uses of energy. \u00a0 It makes energy use a universal &#8220;currency&#8221; naturally, as a useful measure of GDP\u00a0for many purposes, and the use of GDP as a proxy for energy use and environmental &#8220;externalities&#8221;
